Dulcimer Club
The Red River Valley Dulcimer Club was formed in 2002 by a small group of people with special interests in playing music. There are currently more than (20) active members and over (75) members receiving the club newsletter.
Hammered dulcimers and mountain dulcimers are the main membership but other instruments make their way into the jam such as guitar, mandolin, electric piano, vocalists, bass, and recorder.
Two of the original founders of the club are David and Annette Lindsey, still current - active members. His family lives and breathes music in all forms. They make fine hammered dulcimers and are professional musicians playing all sorts of venues from music festivals to Six Flags special events to reenactments to recording their music for resale. Our club is fortunate to have professional musicians at our disposal to teach us technique and new songs every month. Their patience is immeasurable and much appreciated!
The club meets every 4th Saturday from 11:30 AM -2:30 PM at various locations in and around Durant OK. After a short business meeting we break off into separate rooms, hammered and mountain dulcimers, and practice our playing techniques and learn new songs. Then after an hour or so, we get together as one group and play our old favorites and attempt the new songs we just learned. The club consists of beginner through advanced players. Everyone has a great time and leaves the meeting wanting more. Those two hours go by really fast!
There’s always room for more people so we welcome anyone wanting to join the club. It’s free and fun. What more could you ask for; playing music and sharing good times together.
