New Faces
Roy and Ruby Gasaway with their daughter Paula Kissee visited last month. They brought with them two mountain dulcimers they've been playing for the past year. They still consider themselves new and want to learn more about their instruments and learn how to play better. They traveled nearly 90 miles to attend the meeting driving in from Weleetka, OK. They intend on coming to the meetings again and want to become active members with the club. We WELCOME You!

The purpose of our Dulcimer Club is to provide opportunities for dulcimer enthusiasts to meet and share ideas and information, learn new music, and just have a good time jammin'. The club meets the 4th Saturday of each month. A short business meeting is followed by workshops for mountain and hammered dulcimers and a jam session. All stringed instruments are welcome.

RRVDC on YouTube
You can visit http:www.youtube.com/rrvdc and see the club channel on YouTube on the internet. I've posted three videos of the club the first time I saw them. Ahhh - I remember it well… I contacted Janet Hoefer about the club and she directed me to the Magnolia Festival in Durant where the club would be performing. I caught them on video; so those first images you'll see on the site is what my first meeting of the club was. I attended the very next meeting and the rest is history…. Take time to visit the site; check in often as I'll post more soon. Leave comments if you can, and if you can't, it's because you have to create a log in. It's safe, you don't get bombarded with unwanted emails, and it's actually kind of fun to explore the site! ENJOY

April Meeting
We had 16 people attend the meeting last month including a guest who came along with Marla Loturco. We had a great time jamming and going over last month's music. The WCR committee met prior to the regular meeting and laid the ground work for this year's festival. All is coming along well and excited anticipation could be felt among the group as details were lined out.

Glen Rose
Hey Folks - This week is Glen Rose hosted by the Irving Club LSSDS and produced by Dana Hamilton. Concerts start Friday afternoon. Saturday has free workshops and concerts along with the MD and HD Texas State Championships. The winners will perform at Saturday night's concert. You'll find lots of jamming and vendors to go along with the weekend. Try to attend; it's not far away for a really good time.

Club Members Performances
Jeanne Strey had the opportunity to perform with the Hogwallow Boys a couple of weekends ago at the 1st Annual McKinney TX Farmers Market on the historical Chestnut Square. She had a wonderful time performing with the old time country western group out of McKinney. She hopes to perform with them again soon and often. And to think, this all happened because she got her piano tuned!

Annette Lewis and Laurel Hamrick performed at the 2nd Annual Cowboy Poetry, Music and Storytelling Gathering at the Wild Horse Creek Camp last weekend. They played several songs which included a quite zippy performance of Old Molly Hare with a finale of sizzling fingers as everyone was breathless at the end.
And on that note, Peggy and Larry Gooch are really performing a lot, so much so they've had to start turning down gigs! Way to go! They're having a great time while enjoying their time and musical talents. That's what it's all about!

Helpful Hint
Joining in on jam sessions gives you the chance to learn new music for one; but you have to look at it as a fantastic way to practice backup techniques too - not just playing the melody all of the time like we do at home. Speaking of at home - so how do you get the chance to jam as often as you can? Play one of the CD's you've picked up over the years and start playing along. What better way to be able to 'come up to speed' when you don't have the club or group of people to jam with often
|
Helpful Hint
If you haven't invested in a small digital or micro cassette recorder - please - do yourself a favor and get one! Trying to remember how a tune went after you've left the meeting or workshop just ain't going to get it unless you read music! While many of us can read music, those of us who only or also play by ear can pick up a tune quickly if we were able to hear it repeatedly as we worked out the chording and melody. Months after hearing the song for the first time, you can hear it again and keep the tune fresh in your mind to help you 'feel' your way through it. A great little investment for your music education.

Newsletter Contributions
Don't forget everyone, you can send in your event news, an article, an interesting web link, a comic or joke, etc. for inclusion in the newsletter. I'm always looking for things to pass on to others. If you enjoyed it, most likely so will everyone else!
If your interested in getting together with other members between meeting dates to play, it’s been expressed by some that they would entertain getting together to practice. Email to rrvdc@texoma.net and we’ll get everyone connected.
