Post Winter Creek Reunion Edition

WHEW!!

What a great weekend we had at Winter Creek Reunion! What we thought might be a "Transitional" sized festival grew into a full blown, all out Dulcimer Festival Weekend! There were a lot of new faces that we were glad to see and more vendors this year in participation than before. We can only hope that the festival will continue to grow and support itself as a free festival. The raffle participation and the registrations were generous and much appreciated.
We at the RRVDC want to thank everyone who assisted in supporting the festival and making things happen! Many people volunteered to make this another great time for everyone. Let's keep up the good work and to everyone involved -
YOU DESERVE A TREMENDOUS THANK YOU!

November Meeting:

We did this in October last year at the Colbert Frontier Days and had an absolutely fantastic time! The club is going to have a jam area in Heritage Park on Main St. in Denison on November 3rd. We'll set up at 10am and then go on until the last people decide they can't stay anymore! The Art Council of Denison, when contacted, couldn't say enough for their appreciation for the club bringing our music to this event. They love the music and felt the group being on Main St. would only compliment the Fall Art Tour weekend. So plan on bringing your chair, something to drink and maybe munch on although there are plenty of food establishments close by. We'll have tents set up to jam under and around. Tell your friends, bring an extra instrument and relax all day jamming with the club and whoever might show up! There are special demonstrations and meet the artists attractions taking place all day downtown so there will be plenty to see and do for everyone. We'll be looking forward to seeing you there!

youtube.com:

Try it you'll like it! Everyone take a little time to tour www.youtube.com, specifically Bing Futch. He is an awesome MD player/performer and is nice enough to post his Dulcimerica video series on line so everyone can enjoy them. You won't regret spending hours in front of the computer screen as he performs just for you in the comfort of your own home. Watch and be mesmerized as he plays so fluently and with such heart. You'll be amazed at the volume of videos available on his site, and others as you search through the youtube world of cyberspace. You'll find many others posted under dulcimer, take a look. You can checkout www.myspace.com with the same results.......

Lots of good feedback:

We've been getting back 99% positive feed back from the comments on the festival. The only complaint was about the rain and the suggestion to make a double row dinner line - they were miserable watching all that good food walk by while they waited their turn at the chow line! If that is all the 'complaining' we hear about - well then we've done a great job!

What others are saying about WCR:

Taken from the Wright family site at geocities:
Two words to describe the Winter Creek Reunion in Bennington, Oklahoma - heat and rain. It was hot in Bennington during the festival weekend. Actually the rain and the overcast sky was a welcome relief.
With that said we had a wonderful time visiting with friends, we played a lot of music and the food was great.
As you know the Winter Creek Reunion was moved to October so we have actually had two Reunions this year.
David Lindsey and the Red River Dulcimer Club are putting on a very nice festival. It is basically an outdoor festival with a lot of covered space. I really like the way they have arranged the grounds.
These festivals are very special. There are people at the Winter Creek Reunion that I would never be able to visit with if it weren't for this festival.

Check out all of the information on their site at www.geocities.com/pickinwright/index.htm. It was great to have them at the festival again. They come and give their time to the festival and everyone benefits from their kindness and wealth of musical talent.
And if anyone talks to Margaret - ask her about the worm she found at WCR.....

Helpful Hint

Have you gotten stuck in a rut? Do you play the same song, the same way, time and time again without trying different techniques? Take your favorite song, the one you know inside and out, and add something; say for instance - take a little extra time to get to the next melody part and add an extra measure or two of your own making. Maybe take away that drone and chord the chorus instead. Change a half note to two eighths and a quarter, accenting the second beat instead of the first. All of these suggestions and any other changes you can make in your playing techniques give you a variety of ways to make your songs interesting and fresh. Practicing this way also makes you a better musician by stretching your talents and giving your mind a chance to create instead of being stuck in that rut. It's all about having fun -

SO PLAY - HAVE FUN!
