September Meeting: Noon - ?
The club will meet at David and Annette's place to walk through the festival with everyone and make sure everything is covered. Bring a sack lunch, items for the raffle and anything you've volunteered for the festival that you want to drop off early - (extension cords, tarps, tents, chairs, tables, paper goods, white boards). If you have some harvest / fall decorations, please bring them for decorating the stage. We'll be taking inventory and finding out what is left to do and what all is needed. Oh yeah - and bring your instruments! We'll get a little playing in I promise!
Members Attending Extra Activities:
Annette Lewis and Jeanne Strey attended Margaret Wright's MD workshop the last week in July. They both came back with loads of new songs and better ideas on playing. Press harder - strum lighter, press harder - strum lighter, learn by ear - don't depend on the tab music. From their interpretation of the workshop, they worked hard and came back better musicians! They're planning on going back again and want more workshops like this one. They would recommend Margaret's workshop to anyone and everyone! They said they're going to try to go back for the jam the Wright's hold --- we'll have more on that later.
To The Rescue
Club members, Jeanne Strey, Laurel Hamrick and Annette Lewis, met at the new Cigna complex in Denison in early August as 'a call to duty' and helped Annette present a Hawaiian birthday serenade to one of her co-workers. Unrehearsed, and excited to be 'on stage', the three played to an audience of about fifteen Cigna employees for about 30minutes. It was quite interesting and fun!

Helpful Hint
Have you gotten stuck in a rut? Do you play the same song, the same way, time and time again without trying different techniques? Take your favorite song, the one you know inside and out, and add something; say for instance - take a little extra time to get to the next melody part and add an extra measure or two of your own making. Maybe take away that drone and chord the chorus instead. Change a half note to two eighths and a quarter, accenting the second beat instead of the first. All of these suggestions and any other changes you can make in your playing techniques give you a variety of ways to make your songs interesting and fresh. Practicing this way also makes you a better musician by stretching your talents and giving your mind a chance to create instead of being stuck in that rut. It's all about having fun -
SO PLAY - HAVE FUN!

Newsletter Contributions
This is your newsletter folks. If you have an announcement, a cartoon, a handy trick, input on a festival or event you went to, please send things in. Since not everyone does the same things, it's nice to share experiences and news with others so everyone can hear about them too!
If your interested in getting together with other members between meeting dates to play, it’s been expressed by some that they would entertain getting together to practice. Email to rrvdc@texoma.net and we’ll get everyone connected.
